This week marks Transgender Awareness Week across the country. It is a time to increase visibility about transgender people and address the issues members of the community face.
The City School District of ÉðÊ¿Âþ» supports transgender students and employees throughout the organization. We ask families, caregivers and community members to be allies as well and join us in advancing transgender advocacy by working to eliminate the prejudice, discrimination and violence that affect the transgender community.
According to the (GLAAD), 2021 marks the most deadly year recorded for transgender Americans, with at least 45 individuals killed nationwide, most of them African-American or Latinx. That is why it’s more important than ever to take time this Saturday, Nov. 20, to honor the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which commemorates all transgender people lost to violence.
The First Unitarian Universalist Society of ÉðÊ¿Âþ» at 405 Washington Ave. is holding a memorial service Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. It will be followed by a candlelight vigil at Townsend Park at 7 p.m.
