Support for student voice
The recent tragedy in Parkland, Fla., once again has raised the awareness of all communities nationwide regarding the safety of our children in schools.
The district has two primary responsibilities each and every day – to educate every student, and to make sure every student has the opportunity to learn in a safe and secure school environment. In the wake of this latest school tragedy, community action groups around the country are organizing efforts to support peaceful demonstrations.
It is important to note that the City School District of ÉðÊ¿Âþ» will be working with our school leaders and student leaders over the next couple of weeks to ensure that the intent of these demonstrations is maintained, and that we maintain the integrity of the intended causes in the most honorable and dignified manner possible.
We are supportive of our students and their right to advocate for themselves and support their civic viewpoints through protocols that promote the safety, security and well-being of all of our approximately 11,500 students, faculty and staff. It will take each of us working together for all of us to ensure that our students’ voices are heard, and that their voices are taken seriously.
